It's a Twin Thing (One and Thing Two) Shower

Thanks again to Jenn for this original post on this idea of a shower for twins. As luck would have it, my friends, Tracy and Lindsay, actually registered for these onesies for their twin boys. It was meant to be!

I had so much fun planning this with Tracy's sister, Lisa. Once we saw the red and aqua in the little outfits and the endless amounts of inspiration from Dr. Suess, we were on our way. It started with the invitations I made. Remember these?

Another stroke of luck (or serious party mojo), Lisa is as obsessive as I am about being a hostess, so it was a match made in OCD heaven. Throw in Trace's other sister, Kelly, helping out with the food and there was no stone left unturned. There was room left in my stomach either. Those girls are GOOD!

So, without further ado...Thing One and Thing Two for my friends' twin boys. I can't wait to meet you Finnigan and Cooper!

This is where I realized that I probably should stop using her belly as a photo prop. What a good sport. Love you, Trace!

P.S. Yes, those are more lanterns you see. What? It's Dr. Suess, I HAD to do it.

Oh my hell. That is excellent. What are those floofy blue things in the flower arrangements? And when will you be doing my Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing 3 re-shower????? What? A re-shower is like a re-do, or do over. Everyone knows that. Durrrr.....

Amy,

I've just discovered your site and have been a lurker for a few weeks now. I too am an event planner (in Lawrence, KS) and a newly expecting first time mom so needless to say your site is a dream come true!

I'm curious...what were the favors for your twins shower?

amy * stem * said...

First of all, congrats Heidi!

I'm thrilled if anything you've seen on here is of help.

The favors were tins filled with cookies that I put together. I've found that you can't really go wrong with food as a favor!

Leave it you to turn a "thing" into something magical- amazing!!! especially love the red dots on the tables, the blue fur, the chair covers with matching striped tablecloth on the buffet. don't tell me you sew too?!!

It's me, the one with Thing 1 and Thing 2 in her belly :) I just have to say that, especially in person, this shower was absolutely amazing! I had seen some of your past events in pictures, but never truly knew how talented you were until this past Saturday. No stone was left unturned - even the bathroom was decorated as an extension of the party! And the food was fabulous. My family and friends keep going on and on about how great it was and all I can do is agree. I think by having an event so detailed, yet relaxed such as this also made everyone more comfortable...b/c people didn't leave until after 4 and it started at 11!! I'm not sure how anyone will top this. I do know that Lindsay, the boys and I LOVED it. Thanks again - you're a rockstar!

Just came across this via google. What a wonderful shower concept, and fantastic execution! I am impressed. If I'd had a shower with my twins, I would've completely flipped-out with excitement if it was like this!

This is one of the most creative showers I have ever seen...absolutely amazing! I found the link on Tip Junkie.

I would LOVE to post some pictures along with a link to your blog on my website, with your permission, of course. Check out my website at www.go-togirls.com. Fire me an email at jamiefunk@gmail.com.

Thanks!

I'm trying to do a similar shower for one of my best girlfriends. Would you mind sharing any ideas/sites that you used for the invitations? Did you have thing 1 and 2 invites also? Did you make them yourself? Any ideas would be most appreciated!

Never mind, I found the link you listed! Sorry :-) This is fabulous!

Emily -

I'm guessing you found this post:

http://stemparties.blogspot.com/2008/08/sneak-peek.html

I used supplies from Hobby Lobby that you can likely find at any craft/scrapbooking store.

Hope that helps!

Hi Amy,
I also found your site via The Hostess with the Mostess and am very impressed with your creative genius! :) What super ideas! Where did you happen to find the red and white tins for the favors you filled with cookies? Where on earth do you find all of the items for the decor? Great ideas and thanks for posting the pics.!

Hi, Amy this is a wonderful shower idea for anyone and it turned out great! I have one question. Where did you purchase the blue fur on the centerpieces and what is the correct name for it because I am pretty sure it is not blue fur! LOL

amy * stem * said...

Tonie - those were blue fuzzy boas from The Dollar Tree that were cut up. Not sure if they still have them as their merch changes out often. Check fabric/craft stores if you don't have luck at Dollar Tree. Good luck!

Hello and thank you...we had already decided to do our baby's room with Pottery Barn's Dr Seuss bedding...so when I found your blog I was so excited. We designed our invitations and they were a big hit, but now we are in the planning stages. The shower is 4 weeks away and I am trying to finalize the details. Can you tell me...did you make the chair slip covers yourself? They add such a finished look to the room, but I was hoping I could rent them. I look forward to hearing from you and thanks again for sharing your ideas!

That is actually just red and white striped fabric I bought at Hobby Lobby. You could probably find similar at most fabric stores.

It's really easy to make your own chair cover. These were even stapled. A little tip I learned from party planner guru, David Tutera!

Cut the fabric to the length you need to cover the front and back of the chair with as much "hang" as you want in back. Make sure you have about 1" excess on both sides. Place the cut fabric over the back of the chair wrong side out. If you choose to sew, you would just make your seam at the 1" in mark. The temporary party fix though is to take a stapler and staple all the way down at that 1" in mark. Once you've done that to both sides, you simple lift it off the back, turn it right side out and slip it back over. Voila! This is such an inexpensive, quick and EASY way to make chair covers to match all your events. Obviously it will depend on the style of chair you are using but you can make it work for a variety of chairs.

Typing it out sounds confusing but I hope it makes enough sense to try it! Let me know.

Good luck and have fun.

Oh, and send pictures if you want to share!

Cheers,
Amy

As a former wedding & event planner and current mommy to twins, I so enjoyed reading this post! You are incredibly talented and obviously have a great eye for detail. I loved reading Tracy's comment that the guests stayed until 4 pm and that even the bathroom was decorated! Oh the places you will go with your event planning business!

Hi, I love this shower theme .... Ill host one for my sister in law... shes having twin boys and the theme will be one fish, two fish, red fish, new fish by Dr Seuss. I'm using some of you ideas for the shower, and I need to know how were the big red dots of the table made... Ill appreciate your help I'm just a month away from the shower... Thanks!

amy * stem * said...

Thanks, Leslie!!

Hey PunkShampoo (it's Amy from Stem) and Anonymous...sorry just now seeing these and not sure how to get a hold of either of you.

The red dots are cut out of red craft foam sheets and are approximately 4", 6" and 10" in diameter.

Hope that you read this and that helps!

Hi my name is Jen. My sister in law is pregnant with twins and she wants her baby shower theme to be Thing one and Thing two. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers. We have looked all over and there are no decorations for baby showers just for birthday parties. I also wanted to know where you got those adorable onesies. I definitely want to get those for her. And I'm guessing we can just make any kind of food. Lol. Well thanks for your time. But if you can email me at auntiejen_412@hotmail.com I would appreciate it. Thank you.
